He said, she said, they said…

At Moov Consultants, we primarily rely on word of mouth advertising. And testimonials are a fantastic way to share real-life experiences with others. Here’s the latest buzz on the streets:

“They immediately took the reins and put us at ease.”

“We reached out to Claire and Marlene feeling very overwhelmed and underprepared ahead of a local move, and they immediately took the reins and put us at ease. Their services proved to be invaluable, both in terms of the planning and the executing of our move: They booked our moving company (and organized the actual moving schedule, making sure they were available ahead of and following the move to help us), coordinated the contracting of a large interior paint job, and created a packing schedule that would work with our family and an incredibly tight timeline.

With their help, the moving process was actually painless. They asked how we saw the move going and how we wanted to utilize their time and help, and they really listened to what we needed. One of the highlights of working with MOOV, for me, was witnessing the miracle that was their packing up our kitchen, moving it over to our new house and unpacking it in a matter of only a couple days. Claire and Marlene worked incredibly quickly and carefully; when we moved into the house, we had a ready-to-use kitchen with no evidence of packing supplies or boxes, and everything was in perfect condition and organized thoughtfully.

Perhaps most importantly, they were fun to work with. They’re warm, helpful and knowledgeable, and invite you to trust them during what can be an otherwise incredibly stressful time. I highly recommend their services to others.” — EDN

“I recommend them with no reservations.”

“The MOOV team of Claire Mahoney and Marlene Simson helped me move from my home of fifty years to a two-room apartment in six weeks! They helped me downsize and get rid of what I didn’t want. They helped me pack what I wanted to keep and arranged for a mover to take what I didn’t. When everything was my new apartment they helped me arrange my furniture and rehung all my precious art pieces. These gals are quick, efficient, prompt to answer phone calls, and amazingly strong! Their costs are reasonable and their help and personalities made what I have dreaded most almost painless. I recommend them with no reservations.” — Rickie Emerson

“We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again or recommend them to you”

“Like many people, I appreciate a beautiful home but struggle to make all the details fit. Moov Consultants – Claire and Marlene – have been exactly the solution I was looking for. They have great technical skills including color selection, design, and use of space. They are great listeners who respond to your needs and feedback. They have helped us with everything from a curb appeal redesign of the outside of our house to selecting paint colors and doing small budget room design upgrades. They are delightful to work with and have given us a beautiful home. We wouldn’t hesitate to use them again or recommend them to you” — Carolyn D.

Marlene and Claire were a huge help in staging my home. As an owner selling my property, I needed direction about how to get it ready to sell. They talked with me about the process and developed a plan with me. Their kind, fun, direct style get it all done without stress! They used some of what I had to decorate the house and brought in beautiful items to complement it all and it sold within the week! I couldn’t have done it without Moov!” — Robin

Moov made a very emotional and overwhelming job manageable for my brother and me. Helping my dad downsize and declutter so he could stay in his house was a huge undertaking. Moov executed this need with tact and grace. We wanted an outside source to help us manage the whole process and give us direction to avoid creating family tension. Essentially, Claire and Marlene worked side by side with us to get the job done. Priceless. ” — Andrew M.

“We worked together as a team and they helped eliminate the stress for us. Thank you!”

“Moov Consultants managed our move! As a working family, it was difficult to find the time or even know who to call to get our house market-ready. It was wonderful to be able to rely on Marlene and Claire to help figure out all the details. We worked together as a team and they helped eliminate the stress for us. Thank you! ” — Liz and Rob

“Claire and Marlene of MOOV are amazing! These two listened to my needs and requests, then proceeded to transform my living space-using my own things-into what looks like a new home! All in a few hours and affordably. Highly recommend!!” — Elizabeth H.

“A thousand thanks you’s for your wonderful work today! In a few short hours, you transformed the clutter and problem areas into spaces that bring me such joy now.” — Catherine M.

“Claire and Marlene are charming, thoughtful, and infinitely talented. I can’t praise them enough.”

“We reached out to MOOV late last year because we badly needed help organizing and rearranging our 1850s farmhouse. Spoiler alert: old houses are often sorely lacking closet space! My husband and I work outside the home and are parents to two preschool-aged sons. It can feel impossible to contain all the STUFF. We wanted a home layout which could work for our busy life. Most important to us were functionality, ease of upkeep, and style. Enter Claire and Marlene, whom I now believe are actual sorceresses. After one conversation/walkthrough, they went to work and transformed my kitchen in three hours. They came back for two more sessions over the next few weeks, and needless to say, I feel like we have a new home. They were so tuned in to what we wanted and what would work for us. They took great care to display treasured items and make our space feel infused with warmth, personality, and joy. It’s particularly amazing because they used all our stuff that was already there (minus a rug and some storage baskets they brought)! The project felt collaborative, but we were also able to go about our business and let them do their work, fully trusting we were in good hands. Claire and Marlene are charming, thoughtful, and infinitely talented. I can’t praise them enough. My family and I are so grateful to MOOV!” — Meredyth Harple

“They realized a vision we didn’t even know we had. I’m so grateful for their incredible work.”

“My first encounter with Moov was in the midst of a major home renovation project. As excited as we were for the beautiful space my home would become, we had no idea how to get it there. A wall of bathroom fixtures was enough to send us running for the hills! Moov came to the rescue. They talked with us, got a sense of what styles would resonate with us, and understood that function was equally important given my family’s hectic lifestyle. Then, they took it from there! With everything from those dreaded fixtures to paint colors, tiles, window trimmings, lighting, and more they realized a vision we didn’t even know we had. I’m so grateful for their incredible work.” — JB

“With all the demands busy family and work lives bring, “finishing” a home renovation project by fully moving into and styling our new spaces was quickly falling to the bottom of the list. At the same time, we knew we had to make the most out of the investment we had made in our home. So I called Moov. They took care of the house, saving me precious time to focus on other things in my life. Touches of color, practical and beautiful furniture accents, soft pillows, clutter-free shelves appeared and more appeared like magic. All of the selections they made were reasonably priced and matched our style. Everything they put together came with total flexibility to return or rearrange but we didn’t change a thing! Months later I still wander around my house and think, “Thank you Moov!— LSB

Playroom Extravaganza!

The call came in. A mom, not desperate, simply READY and SUPER MOTIVATED. With two young, active, energetic, creative children she knew that the cluttered basement full of unused furniture, old paint cans, tools, and lots of gear had potential. Somewhere through the chaos, she envisioned a playroom. A retreat for her kids. A space of their own. A spot where they could go to swing, bounce, play pretend and dare I say, get out of her hair for a few minutes:))

So the motivation was there, but standing in the cluttered basement it felt way too overwhelming. The vision was blurry. How could this all come together? Was it worth the effort?

Check out the BEFORE shots:

Here’s where we came in. Standing in the chilly basement in the middle of December, we looked around, quickly figured out their lifestyle, asked questions of what needed to stay and what could go. We then asked one key question:

How does this space need to function?

The answer was this: They wanted a playroom that could grow with their young kids, a family room for movie nights, a place for playdates and entertaining, and as a laundry room, gear room, and storage room.  No problem. There was plenty of space for everything if we designed it properly.

So right then and there we came up with the plan. It made sense to section off areas for gear and tools. Define the laundry area a little better. Install half walls to partition off the water heater and electrical stuff. Get rid of shelving that was acting as a resting place for dump bound things, create smaller spaces within the room for a reading nook, dress-up area, include a multi-purpose table area for tea parties and art, include items for large motor development and furniture for movie night. The overall aesthetic needed to be playful and bright, yet not too age-specific so it wouldn’t be outdated in a year or two.

Once we brainstormed the ideas, this motivated mom was ready. Typically this is when we start organizing, even subbing out junk guys, calling a contractor and painter. But in this scenario that motivation was the driving force of making things happen quickly. The motivation carried over to her oh so handy husband who was able to build walls, make countless runs to Good Will and the dump. They cleaned and organized, decluttered and downsized. Check out their progress:

Next, we picked out paint colors and she painted on nights and weekends. We suggested where to install walls and doors and her husband got to it. We decided on the perfect carpet tiles and scheduled the measuring consult and install. We encouraged a simple addition of faux shiplap on the divider walls for a little texture and interest and boom…done! As they worked, we worked. The homeowners were mindful of wanting to upcycle and re-purpose items they already owned. We found several items at ReSource, Good Will, and Boho Baby, a new kids’ consignment shop in Williston. We worked within a budget and helped coordinate the carpet install. Then once all the pieces were ready, we installed the art and shelving, laundry table, dress-up area, play kitchen, reading nook, and even a kid-sized clothesline. We suggested using chalkboard paint on one of the walls and the homeowner nailed it! This was definitely a group effort. Such a fun project. The reaction from the kids….”Pure bliss…they love it!”

The AFTER pictures answer the question. YES, it was worth it!!!

Featured Project- COMPLETE!

It’s interesting that as I drove away from the home in Waitsfield for the last time, I think I actually felt a bit emotional. Our very first job as Moov Consultants came to an end yesterday. Everything from the floors to the walls to the outside decks is complete. The beds are made, pictures hung, and books stacked. The contractors are paid, the lawn is cut, and the homeowners are heading to Vermont.

This project was given to us last September. And it felt like that at the time and it still does; a gift. We were trusted to create a beautiful, liveable vacation home for a family to enjoy and share with their friends. They live and work in a huge city overseas and had no idea where to start or what they really even wanted their Waitsfield home to turn into. At this point, we have spent much more time in this house than the family has. It has been an incredible experience on many levels. We have learned lots, met amazing people, and solidified that we are on the right track. It surely does take a village to make it all come together. We are hoping that they feel like we have returned the gift to them. Take a look:

Styling Your Home…it’s time to take action! UPDATED

I don’t know if your life is anything like mine, but in the winter I am simply at home more often. Or maybe I should say, I am inside my home more often. I run around like everyone else all week and spend most of my daylight hours in the woods or at a ski area on the weekends, but the doors to the deck have been locked and unopened for more than three months now. I often long for opening the windows to welcome the fresh spring and summer breezes, but for now, I’ll find beauty in the icicles hanging from the sills.

However, spending this time inside I think it’s pretty natural to start paying attention to the details of your home. You may notice the eggplant purple accent wall that the previous owners gifted you or the mantle adorned with expired holiday cards or the cluttered bookshelves that need a little love. But, is that where it stops? At the noticing? Maybe it’s time to take it to the next step…the ACTION step.

Winter is the perfect time to re-style your home and this is one of the services that we offer at Moov Consultants. Basically, we come to your house and you walk us through your home sharing the things you love and the things you don’t. Through this process, we are able to gather a sense of your style, how you live in your space and what you need help with. We essentially are a set of fresh eyes, looking at your own furnishings, your artwork, your accessories, your paint colors, your furniture layout and lighting. Then, through this outside lense, we are able to offer advice on ways to improve your space. It’s a really fun process and clients are often amazed at how quickly their home can be transformed into a space that they love. Check out this Before and After photo below. There is still more work to do, but by changing the layout of the furniture an entirely new look was created.

Moov Consultants can help transform your present space without losing touch of your style and personality.

From Madness to Happiness

We are thrilled to announce that the mudroom project is complete! And wow, what a difference a fresh coat of paint, inexpensive carpet from Home Depot, and a bench made from scrap lumber and a clearance rack fabric can make. It’s really fun to bring new life into spaces that are an integral part of your every day. It’s so easy to walk past the pile of bags that desperately needs to be dropped off at Good Will or add one more jacket to the crowded coat rack. But with a little bit of effort, any room can be transformed. And believe it or not, walking into an organized clean space truly does make a difference in one’s overall emotional balance.

We’re pretty good at this. Invite us over and we can brainstorm ideas together. Sometimes all you need is a new vision. We’d love to help you fall in love with your home all over again. Check out some of the before, during, and after photos:

Featured project.

We know that you’re not supposed to have favorites, but the project in Waitsfield that we have been working on has quickly become simply that: our fav! It’s a unique situation because the homeowners purchased the property and then left the country for 4 months. During that time, we have spent endless hours planning, designing, managing contractors, accepting deliveries, and selecting all of the home furnishings, paint colors, light fixtures, flooring, and furniture to create a beautiful and livable home for our lovely clients. Even though the job is not complete, here are a few photos to show the progression of our work. Check it out:

Let us take it from here.

That’s a wrap. The moving trucks arrived at 10:00 am and the house was unpacked and ready for the homeowners by 4:00 pm. But maybe I should be a little more specific.

Our clients closed on their new home yesterday, we met them after the closing for a walk-through of their space to get an overview of their needs. After spending about an hour walking from room to room, we were able to not only get a sense of their needs but also a peek into their style and overall design plan. We then shopped for requested items and met the movers the next day at 10am.

As the movers unloaded, we began to unpack. We asked the homeowner if she knew where she wanted her dishes, pots and pans, cutlery etc. At this point, after juggling a job, managing a family, and dealing with the last minute stresses of actually signing the paperwork to close on the house, she was ecstatic to be able to look at us and say: you decide. We happily agreed to her request. We unpacked and created a sensible kitchen layout including a warm decor to make the clients feel like they were truly settled. We then hung curtains in the dining room and filled playroom shelves with kids’ crafts and family photos. We made suggestions for furniture layout and discussed the options for changing a few paint colors.  And then, unpacked a little more.

If you’ve ever moved, you realize the emotional, financial and overall intensity of the process. When 60+ bins are unpacked for you, your process just got a whole lot more manageable.

Chittenden County, Vermont is such an amazing place to call home. If you are relocating to Vermont or simply moving to a new home in the area. Please consider looking at moving in a new way. It’s time to call Moov Consultants. Box free in a day…it’s our goal.

Mudroom Madness.

If you live like we live, things are about to get real. In the lovely Green Mountain State of Vermont, November triggers quite a few emotions. It is the sad goodbye to the vibrant foliage, colorful hillsides, and crisp sunny days of October but it is also the anticipation of bluebird powder days, cozy nights by the fire and lots of laughs and snowy adventures. In general, November is a transition month with grey, rainy days and dark mornings. November can trigger the blues.

This year I have decided that even though I can already feel my body craving more vitamin D, I’ve lived here long enough to realize that November is when things need to get done.  Wood is stacked, summer clothes are put away, skis are dusted off and boots and jackets now adorn our coat rack as a bit of a permanent fixture until late Spring. In our family, winter means countless outdoor adventures; skiing several times a week, snowball fights and weekend road trips. And with the good always comes the ugly: wet coats, crusty mittens, muddy boots, and soggy duffle bags. Our house looks and smells like a ski lodge come Sunday night.

We have recently moved into a new-to-us house. And I say this because the house is 115 years old. Yep. Proud owners of a fixer upper with huge mountain views and beautiful maple trees on a dirt road surrounded by horses and friends and all things Vermont. It’s lovely, most of the time. And then it happens. I lose it. So, in an attempt to keep my clutter-free sanity this year, I am taking on a November mudroom project. My hope is to create a very user-friendly space where things have a place and gear and boots are not only easily accessible but also easy to store. I want it to be aesthetically pleasing so I find comfort when I walk in the back door and not a sense of utter chaos.

Here’s my other objective: to keep the costs to a bare minimum. We are planning to renovate our home in a few years and since the mudroom doesn’t even have a foundation, it will be completely torn down and properly rebuilt. So, knowing that, I need to put a few “pretty Band-Aids” on it to get me through the next few winters.  Join me as I start this project. I’ll keep you posted with pictures and updates along the way. For now, here are the before pictures:
