Divorce happens… we can help.

When starting a business, one of the most important and difficult jobs is often finding your target audience. At Moov Consultants we have a “Say Yes!” attitude and so it has made our search for our target audience a little more difficult in some ways and much easier in others. The Come One, Come All approach has kept us busy with a variety of new clients. It’s part of what makes our job so much fun, we truly aren’t sure where the next inquiry will come from.

However, a few of our most recent clients have helped us open our eyes and narrow our focus to recently divorced men and women. Divorce happens…good or bad, it’s simply sometimes unavoidable. Regardless of the outcome, a  family or a couple are typically going from one house to two. Temporary or permanent, in most cases, someone is moving out and finding a new place to live. This transition is often overwhelming and here’s where we can help.

We understand that the time soon after a divorce—when people are trying to establish a new life in a place of vulnerability—moving, packing, unpacking, buying furniture, and styling a home is often simply too overwhelming to comprehend. Questions are often discussed and agreed upon during mediation, but who is carrying out the ACTION and when?

The importance of feeling settled in a comfortable space and, in some cases, establishing a new normal for children post-divorce is critical. We can help bring a sense of style and function to a home. We often work side-by-side with the moving company to unpack and set up the entire home.

We specialize in interior decorating services that bring together the home— from stocking the kitchen and baths with necessary items to creating sensible floor plans and layouts. We suggest paint colors, upgrades, lighting, and furniture options working within all budgets. Our clients are typically settled in and ready to continue life within a day or two!

Our goal is to help create beautiful, livable spaces where life can start fresh while keeping the process affordable. If you find yourself needing help in putting all the pieces together. Please, give us a call. You won’t regret it….guaranteed!

Styling Your Home…it’s time to take action!

I don’t know if your life is anything like mine, but in the winter I am simply at home more often. Or maybe I should say, I am inside my home more often. I run around like everyone else all week and spend most of my daylight hours in the woods or at a ski area on the weekends, but the doors to the deck have been locked and unopened for more than three months now. I often long for opening the windows to welcome the fresh spring and summer breezes, but for now, I’ll find beauty in the icicles hanging from the sills.

However, spending this time inside I think it’s pretty natural to start paying attention to the details of your home. You may notice the eggplant purple accent wall that the previous owners gifted you or the mantle adorned with expired holiday cards or the cluttered bookshelves that need a little love. But, is that where it stops? At the noticing? Maybe it’s time to take it to the next step…the ACTION step.

Winter is the perfect time to re-style your home and this is one of the services that we offer at Moov Consultants. Basically, we come to your house and you walk us through your home sharing the things you love and the things you don’t. Through this process, we are able to gather a sense of your style, how you live in your space and what you need help with. We essentially are a set of fresh eyes, looking at your own furnishings, your artwork, your accessories, your paint colors, your furniture layout and lighting. Then, through this outside lense, we are able to offer advice on ways to improve your space. It’s a really fun process and clients are often amazed at how quickly their home can be transformed into a space that they love. Check out this Before and After photo below. There is still more work to do, but by changing the layout of the furniture an entirely new look was created.

Moov Consultants can help transform your present space without losing touch of your style and personality.

From Madness to Happiness

We are thrilled to announce that the mudroom project is complete! And wow, what a difference a fresh coat of paint, inexpensive carpet from Home Depot, and a bench made from scrap lumber and a clearance rack fabric can make. It’s really fun to bring new life into spaces that are an integral part of your every day. It’s so easy to walk past the pile of bags that desperately needs to be dropped off at Good Will or add one more jacket to the crowded coat rack. But with a little bit of effort, any room can be transformed. And believe it or not, walking into an organized clean space truly does make a difference in one’s overall emotional balance.

We’re pretty good at this. Invite us over and we can brainstorm ideas together. Sometimes all you need is a new vision. We’d love to help you fall in love with your home all over again. Check out some of the before, during, and after photos:

Featured project.

We know that you’re not supposed to have favorites, but the project in Waitsfield that we have been working on has quickly become simply that: our fav! It’s a unique situation because the homeowners purchased the property and then left the country for 4 months. During that time, we have spent endless hours planning, designing, managing contractors, accepting deliveries, and selecting all of the home furnishings, paint colors, light fixtures, flooring, and furniture to create a beautiful and livable home for our lovely clients. Even though the job is not complete, here are a few photos to show the progression of our work. Check it out:

Let us take it from here.

That’s a wrap. The moving trucks arrived at 10:00 am and the house was unpacked and ready for the homeowners by 4:00 pm. But maybe I should be a little more specific.

Our clients closed on their new home yesterday, we met them after the closing for a walk-through of their space to get an overview of their needs. After spending about an hour walking from room to room, we were able to not only get a sense of their needs but also a peek into their style and overall design plan. We then shopped for requested items and met the movers the next day at 10am.

As the movers unloaded, we began to unpack. We asked the homeowner if she knew where she wanted her dishes, pots and pans, cutlery etc. At this point, after juggling a job, managing a family, and dealing with the last minute stresses of actually signing the paperwork to close on the house, she was ecstatic to be able to look at us and say: you decide. We happily agreed to her request. We unpacked and created a sensible kitchen layout including a warm decor to make the clients feel like they were truly settled. We then hung curtains in the dining room and filled playroom shelves with kids’ crafts and family photos. We made suggestions for furniture layout and discussed the options for changing a few paint colors.  And then, unpacked a little more.

If you’ve ever moved, you realize the emotional, financial and overall intensity of the process. When 60+ bins are unpacked for you, your process just got a whole lot more manageable.

Chittenden County, Vermont is such an amazing place to call home. If you are relocating to Vermont or simply moving to a new home in the area. Please consider looking at moving in a new way. It’s time to call Moov Consultants. Box free in a day…it’s our goal.

Mudroom Madness.

If you live like we live, things are about to get real. In the lovely Green Mountain State of Vermont, November triggers quite a few emotions. It is the sad goodbye to the vibrant foliage, colorful hillsides, and crisp sunny days of October but it is also the anticipation of bluebird powder days, cozy nights by the fire and lots of laughs and snowy adventures. In general, November is a transition month with grey, rainy days and dark mornings. November can trigger the blues.

This year I have decided that even though I can already feel my body craving more vitamin D, I’ve lived here long enough to realize that November is when things need to get done.  Wood is stacked, summer clothes are put away, skis are dusted off and boots and jackets now adorn our coat rack as a bit of a permanent fixture until late Spring. In our family, winter means countless outdoor adventures; skiing several times a week, snowball fights and weekend road trips. And with the good always comes the ugly: wet coats, crusty mittens, muddy boots, and soggy duffle bags. Our house looks and smells like a ski lodge come Sunday night.

We have recently moved into a new-to-us house. And I say this because the house is 115 years old. Yep. Proud owners of a fixer upper with huge mountain views and beautiful maple trees on a dirt road surrounded by horses and friends and all things Vermont. It’s lovely, most of the time. And then it happens. I lose it. So, in an attempt to keep my clutter-free sanity this year, I am taking on a November mudroom project. My hope is to create a very user-friendly space where things have a place and gear and boots are not only easily accessible but also easy to store. I want it to be aesthetically pleasing so I find comfort when I walk in the back door and not a sense of utter chaos.

Here’s my other objective: to keep the costs to a bare minimum. We are planning to renovate our home in a few years and since the mudroom doesn’t even have a foundation, it will be completely torn down and properly rebuilt. So, knowing that, I need to put a few “pretty Band-Aids” on it to get me through the next few winters.  Join me as I start this project. I’ll keep you posted with pictures and updates along the way. For now, here are the before pictures:
